CEO Update – 21 April 2020Published by admin | April 21, 2020
It’s been just over 4 weeks since the state of Victoria was declared a state of emergency. In that time our lives have been turned upside down with many people losing their jobs and for those lucky enough to still have a job, many are now working remotely from home.
With most kids now learning online from home, we take our hats off to the teachers who have worked tirelessly to make this happen. Our emergency services are doing an amazing job as they try to balance the needs of their families and what the country needs to get us through this pandemic.
At Give a Care we are extremely lucky. Unlike many of the longer established organisations, we do not have multiple sites and large overheads, preferring that our profits go straight back into the development of our Service to ensure we are constantly improving what we can offer the people we support.
Our Corporate Services Team predominately work from home, so they were well equip to switch to a fully remote environment.
It has been extremely busy but under-linking all we do is the health and well-being of our clients and staff and I just wanted to take a moment to share some of the things that we are doing around our Service.
Our NEW CLIENT RELATIONSHIP TEAM is here to answer any questions you might have, adjust your support to meet your current needs or provide advice on how you can best utilise your funding during this difficult time. Call them on 1800 945 321 or email email@example.com
THE GIVE A CARE WEBSITE now has links to useful information in regard to COVID-19: latest news, symptoms to look out for and NDIS resources. Visit our website at www.giveacare.com.au
THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF OUR CLIENTS AND STAFF IS OUR PRIORTY. With over 130 permanent and casual Support Workers at the coalface, each and everyone has been provided with Personal Protective Equipment and instructions on safety measures during this time.
THE ‘BECAUSE WE CARE’ CAMPAIGN was launched in response to many of our clients who were suffering financial hardship and unable to access basic food and other essentials.
Now in its 4th week, we are delighted by the support of local business and individuals who have rallied together in this time of need. A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT. Much more is needed to ensure we relieve some stress during this time for some of the most vulnerable in our community. For more information on how you can help, visit our page HERE.
THE GIVE A CARE FOUNDATION was launched in October last year, with a mission to combat social isolation for people with a disability. The Foundation had started running free events for people to come together and meet new people, make new friends and have fun. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, all our events have had to be cancelled – but rest assured they’ll be back once this crisis is over.
In the meantime, we’re constantly thinking of ways in which we can engage with our clients and give suggestions on things they might like to do as they beat the boredom of looking at the same four walls. Each week we will provide a list of links to fun, interesting, educational and FREE activities which can be found online. This includes virtual tours, live animal feeds, creative activities, and much more. The current list is available on our website HERE.
In addition to this, we are working on our own online program: CONNECTING COUCHES @ GIVE A CARE.
Connecting Couches @ Give a Care is as the name suggests: that we’re connecting people sitting in their own homes. Connecting Couches will bring a range of online activities to people with a disability to help them keep physically and mentally active.
This is a difficult time for all, but it presents an opportunity for us to be creative, to look at new ways in which we can interact with others and have fun.
There will be art, music, yoga, dance, drumming ………… all suitable for people of all abilities and all delivered via ZOOM.
This program will start small but we hope to see it grow over time.
Watch this space for more information or register your interest at firstname.lastname@example.org and receive notifications of what’s on and when.
Until next time…..stay home, stay safe and know that we are working hard to try and make this time as easy as possible for the people we support.
